About
Singing Is What I Was Born To Do
Humble beginnings in Medford, Long Island.21 year old Melissa started singing at a very young age but never pursued her God giving talent in school, church or in any other way tried to cultivate her vocal ability. That was until the day when her girlfriends friend heard her sing Whitney Houston’s,
I Will Always Love You in her living room when she was 17.
Since that fateful day a few years ago, Melissa’s manager has hired Christina Aguilera’s vocal coach, Mr. Don Lawrence of New York City. She has performed at The Apollo Theatre, has donated her time to countless organizations to help various organizations and is the official National Anthem singer for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Long Island. Performed with the popular wedding cover band Sweet Waters and is presently being supported by the popular country/southern rock band Southbound in and out of the studio. She has won numerous local talent contests and recently won the New Hampshire Colgate Country Showdown Contest and is on her way to the Regionals in October 2008.
Melissa caught the attention of Nashville via the internet and has been fortunate enough to have been sent songs from some of the largest publishing companies in music in Nashville, e.g. Sky Line Music Publishing, Murrah Music, Friday Records, etc.
While Melissa travels the road to singing stardom she continues to play at numerous clubs and other venues throughout the Long Island/Tri-State area, building her fan base as she goes. Melissa has a unique sound all to her own. We believe her sound and style is giving birth to a whole new genre of country music we like to call “progressive country”! (Important: she could very well be the first Madonna/Britney Spears of Country!)
She is steadily climbing the charts on soundclick.com, showcaseyourmusic.com, myspace top artists (top 100) in NY under country genre.
Melissa has been fortunate to have recently met Joe Kelly who directs a major audio academic program and is known for his ability to mentor young talent which he’s been successfully doing for over 2 decades. Melissa credits much of her growth as an artist to Joe and others like him like Tommy from Blokhed Studios in Deer Park and Curtis Highsmith a well known R&B singer/artist and lead singer of Little Curtis & Take Five.
Melissa confers on a regular basis with Yaron Fuchs (Grammy Award winner who has worked with such acts as Christina Aguilera, Santana, Biggie Smalls, Toni Braxton, Annie Lennox, Brian McKnight, Herbie Hancock, Madonna, Fugees, Puff Daddy, Bob Dylan, Prince, Faith Hill, Sheryl Crow, Norman Brown, Babyface, Bob Dylan, Kirk Franklin, etc.)
In the studio Melissa works with veteran Nashville producer/engineer Steve Reynolds (credits:Trisha Yearwood, Travis Tritt, The Blues Brothers, Taylor Dane, The Doobie Brothers, Heart, etc.) And Joe Kelly, Director and creator of the Oakdale BOCES Audio Program.
Musical influences: Christina Aguilera, Martina McBride, Jewel, Etta James, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, Mariah Cary, Jessica Simpson, Deborah Gibson.
